Buying a car is a huge investment that has to be protected. As it is important to keep the exterior of the car clean, keeping it internally clean is also very important part of preventive maintenance. A dirty cabin will not only look and smell bad but it will also create and contribute to operational problems.
Dirty air vents in the car can spread dust and other diseases in the cabin. Filmy windows and mirrors can be a cause of obscuring for the driver’s view of the road. Grit and grime can penetrate inside buttons and switches of the car causing them to fail.
Detailing is the name implied for it. It is a careful cleaning which is not just limited to simply picking up old fast-food wrappers and emptying the ashtray. Although many people take their cars to professional automobile dealers by often paying more than $100. The fact is that cleaning cars be done easily at home using ordinary household cleaners and tools.
It only takes some time and a little elbow grease which will make the inside of the car looking as though it had been cleaned by the professionals.
Step 1:  All trash and large items should be cleared from inside the car. The area under the seats should be cleaned and it should be checked for large objects before using vacuum cleaner. The ashtray should also be emptied.
Step 2: All the floor mats should be pulled out and shaken thoroughly.
Step 3: The seat covers should be removed if applicable. They should be washed according to the directions. If one does not have a manual for the seat covers, the store from where the car was purchased can be called and the car dealer can be asked for cleaning directions. Some seat covers can be washed in the washing machine but the directions should always be checked first because different materials require different kind of care.
Step 4: The seats, floor mats and floor should be cleaned using a vacuum cleaner.
Step 5: Any stains on the floor mats should be cleaned using a carpet cleaner or a scrubbing brush.
Step 6: Any stains or spots present on the fabric seat cushions can be cleaned by using a stain remover or carpet cleaner.
Step 7: The car windows can be opened to let the air pass in for the seats and carpets to dry.
Step 8: The floor mats can be left to dry outside in the sun.
Step 9: The inside and outside of the windows can be cleaned by using window cleaner, paper towels or newspapers.
Step 10: The doors, dashboard and other vinyl areas should be cleaned with a clean rag or a vinyl protectant.
Step 11: Now when everything inside the cars has been cleaned, the floor mats and seat covers can be put back in the car after they dry.
