Types of Sanding with Flap Wheels

The main and vital step will be to sand the complicated profile without destroying the details in the profile. There is only one method that can work for this condition is the flap wheel head. Flap wheel heads are designed for its flexibility.  If a flap wheel head of an appropriate configuration is used to the material then many things can happen.

Raw Wood Sanding

The process of flap wheel sanding will firstly smoothen the product you are using. This process is done to remove the small fibers that unnecessarily pop up when sanded in any other manner. This can also happen if any other type of chemical or water is used over the surface of the material.  These fibers if not removed it will rise up. This will cause a roughness in the primer and will stain and seal coat.  This requires an additional sanding between the coats to obtain a smooth top coat. Using flap wheels or other rustic sanding tools will reduce the time spending on sanding between the coats and it will give a smother coat also. If there is less fiber to cover it will require less finishing materials. The second benefit from flap wheels is you will get a uniformed pore opening the material.  This uniformed pore opening will ensure a uniformed color balance in the material you have worked upon.  The third advantage of utilizing flap wheel head is it will soften the sharp edges in the material. These softened edges will help in reducing the area that is impossible for sealer, stain, or the mass of paint to adhere in the material. This will ensure the weak areas reduction in the material. It will also make the sealing or priming much easier and you will require less sand to obtain the required finish in those areas.

Primer or Sealer Sanding

The first thing is that you will have more uniform and through scuff of the primer or sealer coat. This will help in the making of a superior bonding between the seal or primer coat and the top coat. Secondly, as a result of proper sanding in the raw, you will be able to flap wheel sand the primer or sealer coat not burning through or the white lining in the product. At last you will get a high quality finish.
